___ Jeff Herrick, 20th, as director of media ministries, organist/music assistant at First Church in Sherman.
___ Mike Fortenberry, 20th, as pastor of East Paris Church in Paris. A reception will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 26.
___ Cook Springs Church in Huntsville, 100th, Aug. 26. Former pastor Earl Bowers will preach in the morning service, followed by a noon meal and a music program. David Saffle is pastor.
___ Cypress Church in Winnsboro, 150th, Aug. 26. A luncheon will be held at noon, and a reception at 1:30 p.m. to honor Pastor Joe Bass. Bass has served the church for 20 years and is retiring after 46 years of ministry.
___ Western Hills Church in Kerrville, 10th, Sept. 8-9. The church also will dedicate a new education building and fellowship hall. Saturday's events include gospel singing by the Davis Gospel Singers, Glenn Meadows, Light House Quartet, Bruce Carter, Sounbord and Wings of Gold. The program begins at 1 p.m. and concludes at 9 p.m. There will be a break at 4 p.m. for fellowship and a meal, and the singing will resume at 7 p.m. Sunday's speakers will include Les Chaney, Ken Henserling, Jimmy Lammers, Mark Clemmons, Jim Mason, Jim Leak, Frankie Enloe, Tom Hale and George Harris. A dedication of the new building will follow a noon meal with Bill Blackburn as keynote speaker. James Morrow is pastor.
___Deaths
___ Dallas Strickland, 83, Aug. 9 in Abilene. He was a deacon and trustee at First Church in Abilene for more than 40 years. His son, Phil, is coordinator of the Christian Life Commission of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sybil; son, Phil; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.
___ Joe Music, Aug. 12 in San Angelo. Music was a pastor for 33 years in Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona, California, Oregon and Utah. Music retired as president of the International Baptist Bible Institute in El Paso in 1987 after serving there for 11 years. He also served on the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention and the Executive Board of the Baptist General Convention of Texas and as a trustee of Grand Canyon College in Arizona and California Baptist College. He was a professor of religion at the University of Utah from 1968 until 1976. He is survived by his wife, Corine; sons, David and Paul; daughter, Marilyn Williams; and six grandchildren.
