___bluebull Eighty-seven new full-time faculty have joined Baylor University this fall, including Stephen Evans, an internationally known Soren Kierkegaard scholar. Evans joins the faculty as university professor of philosophy and humanities.

___Retiring
___bluebull Paul Wheelus, after 10 years as pastor of Bounds Church in Powderly and more than 50 years in the ministry. He is available for supply, interims and revivals. He may be reached at (903) 813-1511.
___bluebull Robert Overton, Sept. 30, after 31 years as senior pastor at Rice Temple Church in Houston and 47 years of ministry. Prior to coming to the Houston church, he was pastor of Ringgold Church in Ringgold, Redland Church in Lufkin and First Church in Lufkin, as well as a church in Mississippi and another in Minnesota. Overton also has served on numerous committees of Union Association and the Baptist General Convention of Texas. He currently is a trustee at Houston Baptist University and serves as both an adjunct professor and director of the Houston campus of Southwestern Seminary. A celebration and banquet will be held to honor Overton and his wife, Joe Ann, from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. at First Church in Houston Oct. 13. An anniversary choir comprised of people who have been part of the church's choir at some period during the last 30 years will present a song specially commissioned for the occasion. Founding pastor Don Childress will share the history of the church, and Ernie McCoulskey, the first person to enter full-time Christian service out of the church, will preach. ___Deaths
___bluebull Frank Codington, 80, Aug. 7 in Hamlin. Codington was the former pastor of Denton Valley Church in Clyde and Neinda Church in Hamlin, where he served for more than 40 years prior to his retirement in 1998. He was a member of First Church in Hamlin. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sue.
___bluebull Louis Lowry, 92, Aug. 31 in Beaumont. Lowry was pastor of Templo Bautista, a Hispanic mission in Beaumont, for more than 50 years. He is survived by his daughters, Marion Moses and Jean Rambo; son, Robert; nine grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
___bluebull David Needham, 59, Aug. 31 in Dallas. Needham was pastor of Glendale Church in Duncanville at the time of his death, which came due to complications following a stroke. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mary Ann; daughters, Debbie Baker and Robbyn Hensley; son, Casey; brothers, Michael, Timothy and Peter; and four grandchildren.
___bluebull Katherine Cozzens, 92, Aug. 31. Cozzens was an emeritus Southern Baptist missionary to Brazil, appointed in 1941. She directed the children's division of the Brazilian Baptist Sunday School Board in Rio de Janeiro. In addition to planning lessons and preparing Sunday School lessons, she also trained teachers to work effectively in less than ideal situations. She retired in 1974. She is survived by her sister, Jean McGowan.
___bluebull Joe Harper, Sept. 4 in McKinney. A deacon at First Church in McKinney, Harper was highly involved with Texas Baptist Men in both disaster relief and restorative justice ministries. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jayne.
