Two Baylor graduates on trial for faith ___WACO--Two American women jailed in Afghanistan last month on charges of preaching Christianity are Baylor University graduates, according to press reports and a statement from the university. ___The Dallas Morning News reported that Dayna Curry, 29, and Heather Mercer, 24, were among the group of eight foreign aid workers placed on trial last week in the country ruled by fundamentalist Muslims. ___Mercer graduated from Baylor in 1999 with a major in German, and Curry graduated in 1993 with a major in social work. Both women were working in Afghanistan with Shelter Now International, a German-based Christian aid organization. ___Results of the foreign trial were not known at the time the Baptist Standard went to press Sept. 5. However, the Americans charged with attempting to convert Muslims to Christianity were expected to be jailed and then expelled from the country. ___Sixteen Afghans charged alongside them were said to face either a life sentence in prison or death. ___Both Mercer and Curry are members of Antioch Community Church in Waco. The exact nature of their humanitarian work in Afghanistan was not released.
