HSU installs Turner as 14th president

___ABILENE--Craig Turner was inaugurated as the 14th president of Hardin-Simmons University Sept. 11.

presidency June 1, succeeding Lanny Hall, who has become university chancellor. Turner joined the HSU faculty in 1992 as vice president for academic affairs and professor of English. He became executive vice president and chief academic officer in 1996 and assumed the role of chief operating officer in 2000.
___Turner said his dream for HSU is to enhance its recognition as a small Christian university, strengthen it financially, establish an honors program, increase community outreach and improve school spirit, pride and ownership by all its various constituents.
___"With all due respect to our friends and colleagues from other institutions in the state, and recognizing that it is an ambitious and audacious proposal, my dream in 2001 is for Hardin-Simmons University to become the best small Christian university in the Southwest," Turner said.
___"My proposals, my dream, for the future of HSU are ambitious, large, perhaps even a bit intimidating," he acknowledge. "But at Hardin-Simmons University, our dreams should be large, ambitious and sometimes a bit of a reach, because we know that when we approach them with faith, we do not approach them by ourselves."
