___ Volunteers needed. The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship needs volunteers immediately to work in assisting family members of victims from recent terrorist attacks in New York City. Twelve volunteers are needed over the next two weeks. Volunteers will work eight-hour shifts each day between 8 a.m. and midnight. This is not a counseling opportunity; volunteers will provide assistance only as directed. Volunteers should be mobile, self-sufficient, able to work independently and have knowledge of the New York City area or ability to orient themselves quickly using a map. Housing will be provided in a dorm-style environment. Contact the CBF Resource Center at (877) 856-9288 or volunteer@ cbfonline.org.
___ WMU urges notes. Woman's Missionary Union is encouraging church groups not only to pray for rescue and recovery workers in New York City and Washington, D.C., but also to write notes of encouragement to them. Notes may include Scriptures, expressions of concern for the workers and their families and specific prayers for their protection, according to Kathy Hillman, president of Texas WMU. Note cards should be mailed to Prayer Notes, Attn.: Gloria Grogan, 1628 16th St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20009. Deadline for submitting the prayer notes is Oct. 15.

He estimated the potential cost of the ad at $70,000, and the Executive Committee voted to provide $23,000 of the cost from reserve account funds. NAMB and LifeWay Christian Resources will share in the remaining cost.
___ No to seminary merger. The Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee has rejected a request to study the feasibility of merging two of the SBC's six seminaries, Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary in the San Francisco area and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Mo. Instead, the committee passed a statement saying it "commends the excellent work of the two seminaries." The suggestion for a feasibility study was referred to the Executive Committee from the 2001 SBC annual meeting in New Orleans.
