___ Bethel Heights Church in Gatesville, 115th, Oct. 21. A historical marker will be unveiled, and a new youth and fellowship hall building will be dedicated.
___Retiring
___ Prentess Ferrell, as minister of music at Oak Ridge Church in San Antonio. He served the church for three years and had been in the ministry for 48 years. He continues to teach at Wayland Baptist University in San Antonio.

___ Beaumont Place Church in Houston will hold homecoming services Sept. 30. Former Pastor Bobby Powell will be the guest speaker. The day also will include a time of dedication for new education space. A dinner will follow the morning service, and a music service will begin at 2 p.m. Jimmy Smethers is pastor.

___Deaths
___ Charles McClain, 95, Sept. 19 in Irving. McClain was a pastor of churches in Texas and California. Texas churches he served include First Church in Taylor, Calvary Church in Houston, Field Street Church in Cleburne and West End Church in Houston. He also served as a trustee of East Texas Baptist University and two terms as president of the California Southern Baptist Convention. After his retirement in 1963, he served as interim pastor to churches in Hawaii, California and New Mexico. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Bea; son, Charles Jr.; daughter, Betty Thomas; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren.
