MEMBERS from First Church in Georgetown traveled to Gamez, Mexico, to help Iglesia Bethel of Acuna, Mexico, conduct a Vacation Bible School this summer. The average attendance was 110, and 26 adults made professions of faith in Jesus Christ. The group's ministry also included medical clinics where 150 pairs of eyeglasses, 400 hygiene kits, 20 baby kits and 50,000 vitamins were distributed. Other activities were prayerwalking, puppet shows and a soccer tournament. Forty-five people from 15 churches participated.

___ Central Church in Carthage, 100th, Sept. 23. The church will celebrate its centennial with events throughout the month. Evangelist Rick Ingle will preach Sept. 9. Harry Hunt will be the guest preacher in the morning service Sept. 16, and flautist Brendan McKinney will present a concert that evening. Homecoming services will be Sept. 23 with Charles Dodson preaching and a luncheon. Bill Everett is pastor.
___ Bethel Church of Pattonville in Paris, 125th, Sept. 23. Charles Wade, executive director of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, will be the guest speaker in the morning service. Following a luncheon, former pastors will be honored at a 1:30 p.m. service.
___ Bruceville Church in Bruceville, 130th, Sept. 29-30. Saturday events will include an open house at the church's parsonage and a sandwich supper at the church followed by a gospel sing. A catered lunch, a hymn sing and fellowship will follow Sunday's morning service and last until 3 p.m. People attending either the sandwich supper or Sunday luncheon are asked to call the church at (254) 859-5327. ___Events
___ First Church in Plainview honored retiring pianist Jeannine Greene for her 50 years of service to the church Aug. 26. The celebration featured the return of former ministers of music Ed Wittner and Robert Black leading the church choir in some of Greene's favorite songs.
___ First Church in Frankston will hold a noteburning ceremony during the morning service Sept. 9. The church moved into the $1.3 million facilities in September 1998. A catered meal will follow the service. Eddie Hilburn is pastor.
___ A Smaller Church Regional Music conference will be held Sept. 28-29 at Beulah Church in Millsap. Friday's sessions will be from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday's sessions will begin with registration at 8 a.m. and conclude at 4 p.m. The conference will have workshops for pastors, worship leaders, children and youth music leaders, accompanists, sound technicians and choir members. Don McCall, director of the church music department for the Baptist General Convention of Texas, will be the guest clinician. The cost for the conference and Saturday lunch is $5, but lunch reservations should be made by Sept. 27. To make reservations or for more information, call (817) 599-6586.
___ East Avenue Church of Austin will hold its annual reunion Sept. 29 at Hyde Park Church in Austin from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Andy Odom, pastor of East Avenue Church from 1955 until 1958, will be the guest speaker. ___Deaths
___ Patricia Messarra, 56, July 26 in Bryan. She was an active member of First Church in Bryan since 1969. She taught Sunday School and children's choirs among other means of service. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Abe; mother, Thelma Brock; father and his wife, Manuel and Pearl Brock; daughters, Greta Elliott and Gayla Messarra; brother, Gary Brock; and two grandsons.
___ Mary Sampson, 83, Aug. 20. An emeritus Southern Baptist missionary to China, she was appointed in 1945. She worked in Shanghai, the Philippines and Taiwan during her missionary service in Asia. She retired in 1983. Prior to her missionary appointment, she was a secretary for churches in Kentucky, Mississippi and Texas. She is survived by her sisters, Martha Douglas and Marjorie Lewis.
___ Billy Slack, 82, Aug. 22 in San Antonio. He served 11 churches as minister of education/music in Fort Worth, Humble, Corpus Christi and San Antonio over a span of 50 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Doris, last year. He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Heinefield; and sons, Ronnie and Bennie.
___ Ed Jennings, 76, Aug. 27 in Temple. Jennings was pastor of First Church in Florence for 22 years until his retirement in 1990. He also had served Riverside Church in Stephenville. While a pastor in Florence, he held numerous Williamson Association offices, served as chairman of trustees for Highland Lakes Encampment and was on the board of directors at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. His son, Ed, is director of missions of Big Bend Association. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Richard. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mitzi; his son; daughter, Jean Montgomery; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Joan Payne and Bobette Wood.
