BGCT offers online help for church staff searches
___Texas Baptist churches seeking staff members now are only a click away from help from the Baptist General Convention of Texas.
___The BGCT has launched a new website, www.cpis.org, that is home to its Church Personnel Information Services program.
___The website offers a faster online version of a service the BGCT and other state Baptist conventions have provided for years.
___On the secure website, churches may browse brief biographical sketches of individuals seeking positions, and individuals seeking positions may browse brief descriptions of churches seeking ministers.
___While only churches affiliated with the BGCT may post openings on the site, ministerial candidates from anywhere may post resumes, said Richard Faling, director of Church Personnel Information Services.
___Both churches and candidates are protected by several layers of security in the system.
___For example, visitors to the website may view general descriptions of anonymous candidates and anonymous churches seeking staff. To obtain more detailed information about a candidate, churches must submit a request via e-mail, and the candidate must give permission for his or her full resume to be released to that specific church.
___Also, actual postings on the site are controlled by members of Faling's staff in Dallas to ensure accuracy and reliability.
___The system operates independently of any other websites hosted by the BGCT, however, so data is not mixed and is not accessible to anyone but the staff members authorized to process it. And those staff members handle all information with confidentiality, Faling said.
___The website also offers free resources for pastor search committees. Churches may download from the site sample position descriptions and three manuals.
___The first manual was written by Paul Powell, former president of the Southern Baptist Annuity Board and current dean of Truett Theological Seminary. The second is a workbook for pastor search committees written by Vaughn Manning of the BGCT staff. The third is a comprehensive guide to search committee work, including many sample letters and forms, produced by the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina.
