___Johnny Oates compiled a 506-476 record as manager of the Texas Rangers baseball team from 1995 until his resignation in May. He led the club to its first playoff berth in franchise history in 1996 and was named manager of the year by the Baseball Writers Association.

Small multi-ethnic church lives out big vision for missions

___DALLAS--For five days, volunteers from Westmoreland Heights Baptist Church in Dallas directed activities for elementary school-aged children from a St. Petersburg orphanage who were attending a summer camp outside the city. The Communists formerly used the camp to indoctrinate youth.

Possum Kingdom tourists hear of a nother kingdom

___PALO PINTO--Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, Rhonda Harrison and five team members ministered to more than 200 people per week in campgrounds at Possum Kingdom Lake. Harrison spent more than four hours a day four days a week in a van as she and her team worked three campgrounds at the sprawling lake in the North Texas Hill Country.
