U.S. News ranks Texas Baptist schools
___Texas Baptist universities earned a variety of distinctions in the annual listing of the nation's best colleges published by U.S. News & World Report.
___Baylor University retained its second-tier ranking among the nation's doctoral universities. Schools in the second through fourth tiers of this category are not given specific numerical rankings. Only the 50 first-tier schools are ranked individually.
___A stated goal of Baylor's current strategic plan is to break into the first-tier group of U.S. News schools by 2012.
___Meanwhile, the magazine's list of the nation's best master's-level schools placed Hardin-Simmons University and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in the second tier for the western United States. Dallas Baptist University and Houston Baptist University ranked in the third tier on this category, and Wayland Baptist University ranked in the fourth tier.
___East Texas Baptist University and Howard Payne University ranked in the second tier for comprehensive bachelor's-level schools in the western U.S.
___Two Texas Baptist universities were singled out as "best values" among comprehensive bachelor's-level schools in the west. Howard Payne University ranked fifth in this category, and East Texas Baptist University ranked ninth.
