| CALVARY CHURCH in Garland will celebrate its 40th anniversary Nov. 2-3. The celebration will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday with a concert by True North. Displays will be available throughout the building for self-guided tours. There also will be a youth choir reunion with former Minister of Music Al Collier. Call (972) 530-3254 for more information about the choir reunion. A barbecue dinner will begin at 4:30 p.m. at a cost of $5 per person. Reservations may be made at (972) 272-1521. A service will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the combined youth choirs and guest speakers. All adults will meet in the sanctuary at 8:15 a.m. for Sunday School the next morning, followed by a catered breakfast. Former Minister of Music Neil Davidson will lead the music during the morning service, with a choir of past and present choir members, which will sing in the evening service as well. Former Pastor Joe Trull will preach in the evening service. The church met in a warehouse its first year. ___Deaths
___ Georgia Watson, 76, Sept. 9 in Whitesboro. She was the wife of pastor Harold Watson. In addition to the Oklahoma churches he served, he also was pastor of First Church in Peacock, First Church in Whitesboro, Southmayd Church in Southmayd and Bones Chapel in Whitesboro. She is survived by her husband; daughters, Cindy Jordan and Tishira Brown; son, Joe Watson; nine grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
___ Gordon Hollon, 79, Oct. 3 in Boerne. Hollon, a 1949 graduate of the Baylor University School of Law, received the W.R. White Meritorious Service Award from the Baylor Alumni Association in 1984. In 1986, he was elected president of that body. In 1992, he was a named a distinguished alumnus. He also was a member of the university's Lettermen's Association, Bear Club and Parent's League. He is survived by his wife, Jamie; sons, Don, James and Leslie; daughter, Anna Kay Hollon-Harris; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Nell Stevens.
___ Bob Hayes, 49, Oct. 6 in Eastland shortly after being diagnosed with liver cancer. Hayes was director of missions for Cisco Association and mission pastor of Leon River Cowboy Church at the time of his death. He had been pastor of several churches, including Lake Leon Church in Eastland, Valera Church in Valera and Board Church in Comanche. He is survived by his wife, Selissa; daughters, Pepper, Christa, Kim, Amber, Angela and Marie; and son, Jim Bob.
___ Leslie Huff, 69, Oct. 13 in Donelson, Tenn. Huff, a pastor in Kentucky, Tennessee and Illinois, was licensed to the ministry at First Church in Sinton and ordained at First Church in Mesquite. His first wife, Peggy, preceded him in death in 1995. He later married Clara Brincefield, retired missionary to Chile. He is survived by his wife, Clara; brother, John; and sisters, Mary Grimland, Dorris Burns and Janie Garrett.
___ John Parrott, 79, Oct. 17, in Norman, Okla. In addition to being pastor of churches in Arkansas, Indiana and New Mexico, he also served First Church in Palestine. He served on the executive boards of both the Texas and New Mexico state conventions. In the 1960s, he was president of the Southern Baptist Sunday School Board and program chairman of the Executive Committee of the Southern Baptist Convention. He also was a professor of preaching at Golden Gate Seminary. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; sister, Elene Richards; daughters, Rebecca Hullum, Nancy Riddles and Leila Parrott; son, John; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandsons.
___ Willie Scott, 82, Oct. 21 in Austin. Scott was a retired major general in the U.S. Army. He returned from World War II as a major and enrolled at Hardin-Simmons University. During his years as a student, he was president of the student body, a varsity football player and captain of the basketball team. After graduating in 1949, he remained at the school from 1950 through 1962 on the coaching staff. He held the positions of head basketball coach, golf coach and assistant athletic director. He was ordered back to extended active duty in 1966 as an air defense officer and was elevated through the years from colonel to the position at which he retired. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Billie Sue; daughter, Aliceson Coates; son, Richard; and five grandchildren.
