___ Bennie Griffin, retired missionary, has been named a recipient of the Names of National Merit award for the nation of Nigeria. Twenty people were named, but Griffin was the only American on the list. For many years, he was principal of Baptist Boys High School in Nigeria. Many important men of the country, including current President Olusegun Obasanjo, attended the school. Griffin lives in a retirement home in Bryan.

___ Robert Jeffress, 10th, as pastor of First Church in Wichita Falls, Dec. 15.
___Retiring
___ Dan Connally, as director of missions of Heart of Texas Area, Jan. 1. Prior to his 25 years of service to the association, he was pastor of First Church in Goldthwaite, First Church in Orchard Park, N.Y., and First Church in Turkey.
___Deaths
___ Agnes Beckham, 95, Nov. 25 in Abilene. She was a Pink Lady volunteer at Hendrick Medical Center for most of her life. She made many contributions to Hardin-Simmons University and in 1963, was honored with the Keeter Award, which is given to an outstanding alumnus. In 1985, the university bestowed upon her an honorary doctorate in humanities in recognition of her many accomplishments and service to the community. She was a member of First Church in Abilene. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lacy, and son, Caldwell. She is survived by her son, Bob; six grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
