Buckner Family Place opens in Midland area
___MIDLAND--Community leaders from Midland and Odessa joined officials from Buckner Children & Family Services to celebrate the opening of Buckner Family Place at Hearthstone Nov. 15.
___Buckner President Ken Hall called the dedication "an event that will change the lives of many in the Midland/Odessa area through the combination of the strength of a tested intervention program with a beautiful and safe living environment."
___Buckner Family Place at Hearthstone will be modeled on a similar Buckner program that opened in Lufkin in 1997. The Buckner Family Place program is designed as a welfare-to-work project that includes transitional housing. The goal is to assist single-parent families by providing safe, affordable housing and vocational training through local educational resources.
___Through Family Place, Buckner seeks to help participants break the cycle of dependence, reduce domestic violence and eliminate incidents of child abuse and neglect.
___Buckner Family Place joins the Hearthstone ministry, which has provided professional care for children and families facing difficulties in their lives in Midland since 1986. Hearthstone provides short-term residential care for children, crisis intervention for children and families, temporary shelter for runaway youth during conflict resolution and assistance with college and vocational training.
