ridgecrest bluebullNew hotel dedicated at Ridgecrest. Ridgecrest Conference Center in North Carolina celebrated the grand opening and dedication of its newest addition, the Mountain Laurel Inn, Nov. 25. Construction of the 120-room hotel is part of a larger plan to bring new life to both of LifeWay Christian Resources conference centers. Two new hotels and an indoor recreation center are planned for Glorieta Conference Center in New Mexico.
___bluebull Doctoral admissions suspended. Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary has suspended admission to three doctor of philosophy degree programs in its theology school. New students will not be admitted to doctoral studies in ethics, pastoral ministry or biblical backgrounds. Seminary spokesman David Porter said the move is temporary and that admission to the programs will reopen once the seminary replaces a number of faculty who have retired or resigned in recent years.

___bluebull Association ousts WMU. Tuckaseigee Baptist Association in North Carolina has barred the local Woman's Missionary Union from using the association's building as long as WMU leaders belong to churches no longer affiliated with the association. WMU co-directors Nelda Reid and Sarah Davis are members of two of six churches that have left the association this year. The controversy started when the association's Pastors' Conference became upset that Cullowhee Baptist Church had called a woman as co-pastor. Some churches that have left say the association is threatening the autonomy of local churches. Others were tired of the fighting.
