Morgan elected Samford vice president ___BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--Michael Morgan, development director for the Baptist Standard, has been elected vice president for university relations at Samford University. ___Morgan came to the Standard in April 2000 to launch the newspaper's first-ever development program, an effort Editor Marv Knox termed a success. ___"Michael has built a solid foundation for our ongoing efforts to secure the future of the Baptist Standard through endowment and donor support," Knox said. "He has brought us from essentially no development program to a fully functional structure that will serve for years to come. ___"While we are saddened to lose Michael, we understand his unique skills and gifts will be valued by Samford University. We will miss Michael not only as a competent development officer but as a knowledgeable source of Texas Baptist history and heritage." ___Morgan came to the Standard from Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University, where he served as assistant dean alongside Dean Brad Creed, who now is provost at Samford. ___Before joining the Truett staff, Morgan was manager of the endowment department for the Southern Baptist Annuity Board in Dallas and associate director of church/minister relations for Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. ___He is a graduate of Sulphur Springs High School, Baylor University, Southwestern Seminary and the University of North Texas, where he earned a doctor's degree in higher education and educational foundations. ___He is married to Terry Morgan, who is a development officer at Buckner Baptist Benevolences. ___Morgan will begin his new duties in Alabama Jan. 1. ___The Baptist Standard remains committed to its development program, Knox reported. ___"We are grateful to the many people who have caught the vision of the Standard's Let There Be Light campaign and who understand the value of funding a free press for Texas Baptists," Knox said. "Our commitments have not changed, and the need to keep the light of truth burning remains essential."
