___ HBU plans Christmas pageant. Houston Baptist University will present "A Man Named Jesus," a Christmas pageant written and directed by HBU junior JD Humber. Performances are scheduled for Dec. 13 and 14 at 7 p.m. in Sharp Gymnasium. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students. Parental guidance is suggested for children under the age of 12. ___ HSU adds degrees. Hardin-Simmons University will add two degree programs in its Holland School of Sciences and Mathematics. Beginning in the next academic year, HSU will offer a bachelor of science and bachelor of arts degree in environmental science and in biochemistry and molecular biology.
___ Criminal justice scholarship established. Kevin Issitt, a 1995 graduate of Hardin-Simmons University, has established a scholarship for criminal justice majors. The first recipient of the scholarship is Michael Hull.
___ HBU trustees approve tuition rate. Trustees of Houston Baptist University have set undergraduate tuition for the 2003-2004 school year at $370 per semester credit hour. Students also will be given an option to lock in a four-year guaranteed rate of $405 per hour. At the same time, trustees announced six new scholarships--the Founders Academic Scholarship, Presidential Academic Scholarship, Leadership Grant, Ministerial Dependents' Grant, H.B. Smith Academic Scholarship and University Service Scholarship.
___ UMHB offers masters in religion. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor will launch its new master of arts in religion degree in the spring semester. The degree will include two tracks of study, theological studies or Christian ministries. The theological studies track is a 36-hour thesis program emphasizing either biblical studies, theological/philosophical studies, historical studies or ministry studies. The Christian ministry track is a 36-hour program emphasizing theological reflection and practical implementation of ministry skills culminating in a professional project.
___ DBU honors Bailey and Smith. Dallas Baptist University honored Barbara Green Bailey and Kenneth Smith during an alumni homecoming banquet Nov. 22. Bailey, who is married to Mark Bailey, president of Dallas Theological Seminary, is a 1995 DBU graduate who speaks and teaches in a women's ministry. She received the Distinguished Alumna Award. Smith, who received the Honorary Alumnus Award, is an adjunct professor of geology at DBU. He and his wife are active in both classroom and extra-curricular activities with students. He is a former energy company executive and a certified professional geologist.
