19 Texans among 118 IMB appointees
___Nineteen people with Texas connections were among 118 missionaries appointed by the International Mission Board during a service at First Church in Columbia, S.C., Nov. 13. They join more than 5,000 IMB workers in 185 countries and among 1,125 ethnic people groups.
___Rob and Sotheary Brandon will serve as mobilizers and equippers for a team of Christians serving in Thailand. They will work to begin a church-planting movement among an unreached people group in the area. The Brandons previously served in Thailand through International Mission Board programs--he served with the International Service Corps, and she served through the Journeyman program. Since May, he has served as discipleship minister for Khemarak Christian Baptist Church in Houston. They live in Orange and are members of Northwood Church in Keller. Mrs. Brandon, who was born in Cambodia, is a graduate of Houston Baptist University. They have one daughter--Taylor.
___Scott and Mentanna Campbell will work to develop strategies for reaching the students of France. In particular, they will organize a team that is passionate about reaching the 400,000 French-speaking indigenous students in Paris. Since 1999, the Campbells have served in France with the International Service Corps, a missions program of the IMB. Both have prior church staff experience, with Mrs. Campbell previously serving as minister of singles and college students at Glenview Church in Fort Worth. They live in Cedar Hill and are members of Deer Creek Community Fellowship in Burleson. They also consider Paramount Church in Amarillo an influential church in their lives. He was born in Odessa; she in Amarillo.
___Martin and Carrie Chappell will serve in Southeast Asia, where he will be pastor of a church and help plant other churches in the area. She will be involved in outreach through the church and home. Since 1999, the Chappells have served in Southeast Asia with the International Service Corps. Chappell previously was an associate pastor in North Carolina and also served with the Home Mission Board's US-2 mission program. Mrs. Chappell received her bachelor's degree from Baylor University. They have three children--Charles, Caleb and Cody.
___Michael and Susan Goodman will participate in student evangelism in Edinburgh, Scotland. They will be involved in evangelism, discipleship and equipping other believers. Less than 3 percent of the student population in Edinburgh is Christian. Since 1989, Goodman has served as a director of Baptist Student Ministries with the Baptist General Convention of Texas. He has worked with students at Dallas Baptist University; Del Mar College and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, both in Corpus Christi; and Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. Mrs. Goodman previously served in Japan with the Journeyman program, a missions ministry for recent college graduates that is sponsored by the IMB. He was born in Kaufman and is a Baylor University graduate. They live in Duncanville and have three children--Lauren, Emily and Walker.
___Andy and Lori Hill will work as volunteer coordinators in Mexico. He will discover and implement ways of directing volunteer groups to aid missionaries in evangelism and discipleship. She will be involved in outreach through church and home. Since 1999, he has served as associate pastor at First Church in Clyde, where the family lives. He previously was a police officer in Abilene. Other churches the family considers influential in their lives are Trinity Church, First Church and East Side Church, all in Haskell, where they both were born. They have two children--Laurel and Mollie.
___Matt and Stella Humphries will conduct medical ministries in East Asia. He will return to Hope Medical Clinic, where he previously served during a volunteer trip and as a missionary. He also will lead volunteer teams into another country to do medical work. She will be involved in outreach through church and home. Since January, he has worked as a physician in Fort Worth,but previously was a medical missionary in East Asia. The Humphrieses live in Fort Worth and are members at Southwayside Church there. They also consider First Church in San Marcos, where his father was pastor, to be influential in their lives. Humphries was born in Lubbock, and his parents are former IMB missionaries. Mrs. Humphries was born in Hong Kong.
___Harold and Ginger Johnson will serve in the Czech Republic. He will focus on planting churches and coordinating theological education by extension programs in the area. She will be involved in outreach through church and home. Johnson currently is pastor of an Alabama church, but previously served at Dixie Heights Church in Fort Worth. Mrs. Johnson was born in Dallas, and her parents are houseparents with Texas Baptist Children's Home. They have two children--Taylor and Hayden.
___Jeremy and Stacy Parks will serve the deaf population of Venezuela. He will work as a church-planting strategist, studying the deaf culture and population distribution and developing and implementing strategies to reach the deaf with the gospel. Additionally, he will encourage and train Venezuelan Christian leaders to begin new ministries and spread the gospel throughout the country. Mrs. Parks will work through church and home to accomplish the family's assigned task. For two years, the Parkses have worked in Europe with IMB's International Service Corps. Before leaving for Europe, Parks served as an educational audiologist in North Carolina and as a medical audiologist in West Virginia and Houston. The couple says Pine Drive Church in Dickinson has played a significant role in their lives. He was born in Dickinson. They have two children--Preston and Zachary.
___Janette Shackles, a medical doctor, will work as a physician at the Baptist Medical Center in Nalerigu, Ghana. She will use her medical skills to minister to the physical and spiritual needs of people in the remote northern region of Ghana. She will study Mampruli, the language of the Mamprusi people. Since 1989, she has been a physician in Alaska. She was born in Austin.
___Keith and Kristie Sullivan will serve in central and eastern Europe. He will be an apprentice church-planter and church-developer. Their plan is to see a network of house churches in all levels of society in the region. Sullivan will train people to lead and multiply those groups. Sullivan has worked as a teacher in the Crowley school district and as an IMB Journeyman in Russia. Mrs. Sullivan has worked as a medical coordinator for World Relief in Fort Worth and as an IMB summer volunteer in Bosnia. The Sullivans live in Fort Worth, where they are members of Hope Community Church. The have one son, Gideon.
