September 24, 2001 ___ A prayer in time of trouble ___By Charles "Rusty" Walton ___"Heavenly Father, we gather to worship our God and our Creator with a new sense of awareness today. Somehow, we imagined that our nation was too strong, too rich, too wise, too powerful and too resourceful to suffer harm at the hands of our insignificant enemies. We were wrong. ___As a nation, we have said we did not want you in our government or in our schools, or in our workplace, or even in our hearts. We were wrong. ___Forgive us for our blindness. You have shown us that we are only as strong as our love and reverence is of our Creator. Forgive us for implying that you were not needed in our lives. We were wrong. ___Awaken in us a sense of your presence. And when we say we do not need your protection, or we do not need your compassion, or we do not need your wisdom, or we do not need Gods love, help us to know we are wrong. ___We turn to you in true repentance today. We seek your love and forgiveness. We honor you as the only true God and Savior. Bless those today who have lost loved ones or who are waiting to hear. Give wisdom to our elected leaders and to those in our military. Bring true justice to the world so that all may know that Good is rewarded and that evil is punished. ___May we also know that you have not removed your hand of love from your people and this nation. ___We pray in our Saviors name, Amen. ___Charles Walton is pastor of First Baptist Church in Conroe. ___ Baptist Standard ___ News of religion, faith, missions, Bible study and Christian ministry among Texas Baptist churches, in the BGCT, the Southern Baptist Convention ( SBC ) and around the world. ___ ___Contents/ Masthead / Why We're Here / Links / Archive / E-mail us/ SUBSCRIBE!/ Signup for FirstLook |
