Neighboring churches join forces to maximize each church's strength

___DALLAS--January was indeed a time of new beginnings for two Dallas-area churches as they overcame their individual weaknesses to become one stronger church.
___Calvary Baptist Church of Oak Cliff and Westmoreland Heights Baptist Church were located only 3 miles apart, but they were traveling in different directions. Calvary once was a thriving congregation, but its expansive facilities dwarfed the congregation of about 50. Westmoreland Heights was averaging 300 in Sunday morning attendance, but its pews were so packed that people left because they could not find places to sit or park.
___Both situations changed Jan. 13, when the two congregations merged. Calvary is providing the buildings, and Westmoreland Heights is providing most of the people.

Texas children's ministers create their own Sunday School curriculum series

___Frustration with other available products has led a group of Texas Baptist children's ministers to publish their own Sunday School curriculum for children.
___It's not fancy, and it's not produced in mass quantities, but it is meeting a need in the churches where it's used, according to those involved.
___"When we put the Faithway Bible study literature in the hands of our teachers, the quality of our Sunday School experience jumped several notches," said Wayne Gerhardt, associate pastor for childhood education at University Baptist Church in Houston. "Our teachers like it because they truly see and understand they are guiding the spiritual development of these children."

___PHOENIX -- The alleged swindling of $600 million from investors in the Arizona Baptist Foundation could provide clues to how the Texas energy giant Enron collapsed, according to the Arizona attorney general.
___The two bankruptcy cases are related by the fact Arthur Andersen was the auditor for both Enron and the Arizona Baptist Foundation.
