Around the state
___ Ann Gebuhr, professor in music, associate dean of the college of arts and director of the Houston Baptist University School of Music, has been invited by the Rockefeller Foundation's Study and Conference Center in Bellagio, Italy, as a scholar- and composer-in-residence for July 2002. During her stay, her project is to complete the first sketch of a symphony, "Voyage d'Anima," which is scheduled for premeire by the Bucharest Philharmonic.
___ Four students from Texa
TEMPLO BAUTISTA of South Houston held a groundbreaking ceremony for a sanctuary and educational facilities. Participants in the ceremony included founding members Ellis Orozco, Carlos Pena and Hipolito Trujillo. All three took part in the church's initial groundbreaking in 1972. Ananias Gonzalez is pastor.
s were December graduates of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Jeffrey Donnell of Dallas and Jon Redmond of Pasadena received the doctor of ministry degree, Penny Glaesman of Pampa earned the bachelor of general studies degree and Rhonda Rogers of Paris received the master of arts in marriage and family counseling degree.
___ Lawson Hagar, assistant dean of Hardin-Simmons University's School of Music, will serve as interim director of bands for the spring semester.
___ Billy Muench of Austin received the master of divinity degree and James Barr of Benbrook the master of divinity with a church planting emphasis from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in December.
___ Three Texans recently received degrees from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Shawn Corzine of New Braunfels and Billy Ross of El Paso received doctor of ministry degrees, and Eric Johnson of Dallas received the master of theology degree.

___ Bobie Miller, 20th, as minister of music at South Main Church in Pasadena, Jan. 27.

___Deaths
___ Dean Evans, 69, Jan. 10 in Flatonia. Evans was pastor of Flatonia Church in Flatonia at the time of his death. He previously had served First Church in Laguna Park and Mount Zion Church in Rockdale. He is survived by his wife, Joy; and sons, Jim, Bill and Doug.
___ Walter McNealy, 93, Jan. 14. He was an emeritus Southern Baptist missionary to Brazil, appointed in 1937. He helped start 49 churches and played a central role in founding a state Baptist convention and starting two Baptist schools and a Bible press. Prior to his mission appointment, he was pastor of West Orange Church in Orange. He is survived by his wife, Ymogene; son, Walter Jr.; daughter, Mary Jean Borosvskis; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
___ Estelle Huff, 91, Jan. 18 in Dallas. She served alongside her husband, L.M. Huff, for 43 years while he was pastor of churches in Freer, Benavidez, Ingleside, Sinton, Mesquite, Texas City and Carrier Mills, Ill. She was preceded in death by her husband and son, Leslie. She is survived by her sons, L.M. Jr. and John; daughters, Mary Grimland, Dorris Burns and Janie Garrett; sisters, Lois Baird and Elsie Turner; brother, Curtis Higginbotham; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
___ Lois Childers, 88, Jan. 19 in Abilene. Her husband, Clyde, was vice president for development at Hardin-Simmons Unversity from 1968 to 1978 and director of development for Baptist Memorial Hospital System in San Antonio for seven years until his retirement in 1988. She was a member of Trinity Church in San Antonio. She is survived by her husband of 66 years; and her sister, Mona Kinslow.
