___ River Ministry retreats offered. River Ministry on-site retreats are scheduled in three borderland associations in February. The retreats, designed for church groups that already know the areas in which they plan to serve this year, are slated for Feb. 8-9 in Laredo, Feb. 15-16 in Del Rio-Uvalde, and Feb. 15-16 in Rio Grande Valley. ___ Mayes to recruit for Logsdon. Werth Mayes has been named the first director of student recruitment and resources development for Hardin-Simmons University's Logsdon School of Theology. Vernon Davis, dean of the theology school, said the staff addition "will enable us to address effectively two basic challenges in the continuing development of the Logsdon School of Theology--reaching increasing numbers of students preparing for ministry and enlarging the resources to make possible the future growth of the program." Mayes is a 1998 Logsdon graduate. He has been serving First Baptist Church of Rotan as pastor since 1996. His other pastorates include First Baptist Church of Weinert and Knapp Baptist Church in Knapp.
___ HSU sets preview. Hardin-Simmons University's winter preview is Feb. 23 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students interested in attending the university may learn more during this special event. ___ Stinger Daze planned. Howard Payne University will host Stinger Daze Preview Weekend for prospective students Feb. 22-23. The event is designed for high school and transfer students. Stinger Daze guests will tour the campus, visit with faculty and current students, and receive information on financial aid, admissions and student life. ___ Women of Worship event planned. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor will hold its second annual Women of Worship weekend Feb. 1-2. The program begins at 7 p.m. Friday and runs all day Saturday. Registration is $10 and includes a T-shirt. The event is open to women who are college age and high school seniors. The program will consist of worship services, recreation, seminars and lunch and dinner on Saturday. Lisa Heitman-Payne from NBC News 6 will be the keynote speaker on Friday, and state Rep.
