Nearly one-fourth of top Lottie-giving churches are BGCT congregations ___RICHMOND, Va.--Twenty-two churches affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas were among the top 100 givers to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions in the year 2000. ___The annual offering provides major funding for the Southern Baptist Convention's International Mission Board. ___The leading congregation in total dollar giving for the 2000 offering was Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, N.C. That congregation's $399,064 gift surpassed the next-largest gift by more than $124,000. ___First Baptist Church of Rockwall was the nation's third-leading congregation in total gifts and the top giver in Texas, with $255,574. Champion Forest Baptist Church in Houston also ranked among the nation's top 10, placing sixth with a $228,818 offering. ___Other BGCT-affiliated congregations in the top 100 were: ___ First Baptist Church of Dallas, $186,709. ___ Green Acres Baptist Church of Tyler, $181,109. ___ First Baptist Church of Odessa, $171,230. ___ First Baptist Church of Lake Jackson, $144,877. ___ Park Cities Baptist Church of Dallas, $133,167. ___ First Baptist Church of Midland, $129,944. ___ First Baptist Church of Carrollton, $123,219. ___ First Baptist Church of Euless, $119,130. ___ Hunter's Glen Baptist Church of Plano, $110,522. ___ First Baptist Church of Henderson, $107,956. ___ Hyde Park Baptist Church of Austin, $104,440. ___ First Baptist Church of Denton, $90,406. ___ Travis Avenue Baptist Church of Fort Worth, $90,009. ___ Kingsland Baptist Church of Katy, $87,688. ___ Lake Pointe Baptist Church of Rockwall, $86,914. ___ Tallowood Baptist Church of Houston, $70,940. ___ Plymouth Park Baptist Church of Irving, $69,078. ___ First Baptist Church of Lubbock, $68,344. ___ Calvary Baptist Church of Beaumont, $68,053. ___Each of the top 100 congregations received recognition from IMB President Jerry Rankin. ___But IMB officials also expressed thanks to thousands of smaller churches in Texas and elsewhere. "It's still important to note that almost 90 percent of the offering comes from congregations faithfully giving smaller gifts," noted Billy Hoffman, the IMB's director of development. "This offering couldn't succeed without the thousands of churches committed to the missionaries it supports."
