Princeton church 'eweses' Christmas for Bible school
___PRINCETON--Children and animals alike showed up for the seventh annual Christmas Bible School at Faith Baptist Church in Princeton.
___The program, held Saturday, Dec. 1, was dreamed up by Jennifer Fike, daughter of Pastor Stan Fike. The pastor writes the curriculum each year for the day school.
___This year's theme was "O Come, Let Us Adore Him." Children from the church and community learned about Christ's birth through lessons, activities, crafts, music and recreation. They visited with shepherds who told their version of the events surrounding Christ's birth, and they petted sheep brought along by the shepherds.
___The final event of the day was a birthday party for Jesus with cake and party favors.
___Fike said the event offers an antidote to the commercialism of Christmas.
___"We wanted to share with children the truth of the gospel," he said. "We wanted to help them recognize the magnificent love of God in the Christmas story. We wanted to emphasize how Jesus' birth 2000 years ago was part of a plan God set in motion from the beginning of time to redeem mankind and draw us to himself. We wanted to help families celebrate Christmas in a deeper way."
