___ Barbara Bush at Baylor. Former First Lady Barbara Bush will speak at Baylor University March 11 as part of the President's Forum Lecture Series. President Robert Sloan will confer on her the honorary doctor of humane letters degree. In addition to her speech, Bush will answer questions from the audience. ___ Senior Adult Day planned. Hardin-Simmons University will host a Senior Adult Day March 1. Festivities will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a continental breakfast in Moody Center, followed by a concert by the Cumberland Quartet of Silver Dollar City at 10:30 a.m. in Behrens Auditorium. ___ HSU will operate London campus. Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene has announced a partnership with Louisiana College to jointly operate a campus facility in London. This program will allow each school to send 15 students and a professor to live and study in the heart of London. Students and faculty will live at St. Margaret's Hotel, which is located only a block from the British Museum and in the heart of the theater district. They will utilize classroom facilities of Birkbeck College. Students also will spend four weeks living in the homes of British families while continuing their studies in London.
___ DBU enrollment still rising. Spring enrollment at Dallas Baptist University is 4,095, continuing a trend of increases. This spring's gain is 249 greater than last spring, a boost of 6.5 percent.
___ Baylor social worker honored. Sheila Bates, a field instructor in Baylor University's School of Social Work and a supervisor at Child Protective Services in Waco, is one of three recipients of the national Heart of Social Work Award given by the Council on Social Work Education. Last October, Bates was named Texas Field Instructor of the Year by the Texas chapter of the National Association of Social Workers.
___ Nominating committee to meet. The Baptist General Convention of Texas Committee to Nominate Executive Board Members will meet Aug. 13 at 10 a.m. in the Landes A Conference Room of the Baptist Building, 333 N. Washington, in Dallas. Brent Beasley, pastor of First Baptist Church of Eagle Lake, is chairman of the committee.
___ UMHB plans preview weekend. Three hundred high school students will visit the campus of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor March 1-2 for spring preview weekend. The program for high school juniors and seniors and their parents offers a glimpse at academic programs, financial aid and scholarships. Prospective students will stay in dorm rooms with current UMHB students, meet university administrators and professors and hear a concert by Christian singer Jennifer Knapp. For more information, call (800) 727-UMHB or visit www.umhb.edu.
___ Birthmother seminar planned. Buckner Adoption and Maternity Services will host a seminar for previous Buckner birthmothers, "Saving Graces: Finding Our Places as Birthmothers," Feb. 23 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 4830 Samuell Blvd. in Dallas. The day will be dedicated to women who made a plan of adoption for their children through Buckner from 1985 through 1995. For more information, call (214) 381-1552.
