___bluebull HBTS enrollment grows again. Spring enrollment at Hispanic Baptist Theological
___School grew by 12 percent from the fall semester. Enrollment of 139 students on the San Antonio campus marks the institution's second-highest enrollment in its 55-year history. Enrollment for the Centers for Biblical Studies, the school's off-campus sites, reached 190, bringing total enrollment to 328. President Albert Reyes attributed the enrollment gains to the Timothy Project, a scholarship program funded primarily by the Christ is Our Salvation Foundation in Waco.
___bluebull Claude couple create scholarship. Henry and Koma Beryl Fields of Claude have established a presidential scholarship at Hardin-Simmons University. Mrs. Fields is a 1940 graduate of HSU and has served as a university trustee. She also serves on the Board of Development. The Fieldses are ranchers and active in First Baptist Church of Claude.
___bluebull UMHB receives estate gift. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor recently received $436,224 from the estate of Helen Marie Smith Davis of Kenneth City, Fla. The gift was added to the Ralph and Helen Smith Davis Tomorrow's Leaders Endowed Scholarship. Mrs. Davis died July 20, 2000. Her husband preceded her in death, and the scholarship was dedicated in their memory by the university in 2001.
___bluebull Secretaries plan April event. The Texas Association of Southern Baptist Secretaries will hold its 15th annual conference April 11-13 at the Omni Bayfront in Corpus Christi. In addition to 31 personal enrichment and skill seminars, the conference will include keynote addresses by Charles Walton of First Baptist Church in Conroe, Clifton Jansky of San Antonio and Janice Holcomb of Brentwood, Tenn. ___bluebull Lott and Becker at Baylor. Baylor University's annual Art & Soul conference March 14-17 will feature best-selling author Bret Lott and Christian recording artist Margaret Becker. Lott, author of "Jewel" and three other novels, will give a public reading at 8 p.m. March 15 in Jones Concert Hall. Becker, a singer and author, will perform in concert at 8 p.m. March 16 in Jones Concert Hall and will teach a songwriting workshop at 3:40 p.m. March 14 in the Bill Daniel Student Center. ___bluebull Correction: An advertisement in last week's Standard placed by the Baptist General Convention of Texas contained two errors. BGCT Communications Coordinator Becky Bridges issued this statement: "The advertisement listed East Texas State University as an institution of the BGCT. The institution that is actually part of the BGCT is East Texas Baptist University. The BGCT also is a supporter of Houston Baptist University. Texas Baptists affirm the quality of these schools, are full supporters of HBU, ETBU and their leaders and students and sincerely regret the mistake."
