Mary Hill Davis goal set at $5.21 million
___CEDAR HILL--The Woman's Missionary Union of Texas board of directors unanimously approved a $5.21 million giving goal for the 2002 Mary Hill Davis Offering for Texas missions.
___Last year, Texas Baptists gave $5,009,735 to the Mary Hill Davis Offering, falling short of the $5,750,505 goal.
___Meeting Feb. 21 at Mount Lebanon Baptist Encampment, the 39-member board set the goal and approved recommended allocations for the 2002 Texas missions offering, including $1.3 million to help start new churches.
___Other key allocations include:
___ $913,000 for the Texas WMU operating budget.
___ $420,000 for River Ministry.
___ $360,000 in associational support, with a special emphasis on helping metropolitan associations develop creative ministries.
___ $215,000 in "missional church" support for more than 200 Key Churches in Texas, including multihousing ministries. Key Churches provide specific leadership in starting other churches.
___ $195,000 for Hispanic Baptist Theological School.
___ $170,000 for Valley Baptist Missions/Education Center.
___ $170,000 for the small-church matching grant fund, which provides matching funds up to $5,000 for construction projects in churches with 100 or fewer in average attendance.
___The offering includes support for the coordination and orientation of volunteers through Mission Service Corps and Texas Partnerships, scholarships to help ethnic and African-American students attend Texas Baptist universities and seminaries, and support for Texas Baptist Men ministries.
