Hardins-Simmons benefactor dies
___Koreen Logsdon-Hemphill, 95, died Jan. 26 at an Abilene nursing center.
___She was a benefactor of Hardin-Simmons University through the establishment of the Logsdon School of Theology, named in memory of her late husband, Charles Logsdon, an Abilene rancher who died in 1981.
___She later married Lee Hemphill in 1989.
___She was very involved in civic activities and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, having served as Worthy Matron; lifetime member of Abilene Woman's Club; Daughters of the American Revolution; and the Colonial Dames.
___She also was the 1987 recipient of HSU's John J. Keeter, Jr. Alumni Award, a member of the school's board of development, the first recipient of the Outstanding Philanthropist of the Abilene Area award selected by the Abilene chapter of the National Society of Fund Raising Executives and a member of First Church in Abilene.
___She is survived by her husband; step-son, Hilton Hemphill; and step-daughter, Rosa Lee Pritchard.
___ Buckner Fanning, recently retired pastor of Trinity Church in San Antonio, has been selected as a Pioneer Peacemaker 2002 by the San Antonio Bar Foundation. The awards gala will be held Feb. 8 at the Marriott Rivercenter Hotel. The festivities begin at 7 p.m., and tickets are $150 each.

The new structure, which wraps around three sides of the church's phase two building, adds 28,000 square feet of space, including kitchen, reception hall, and education and music facilities. The copper cupola provides the church with a distinctive landmark on the heavily traveled Dallas North Tollway.

___Deaths
___ Pauline Strickland, 83, Dec. 23 in Fort Worth. She was the wife of Otis Strickland, president of Decatur Baptist College from 1950 to 1965 when the college moved to Dallas and changed its name to Dallas Baptist College. He retired the next year. Prior to his educational service, he was pastor of First Church in Cisco. She taught Old Testament at the Decatur school for five years. She had been teaching a Sunday School class at Travis Avenue Church in Fort Worth since 1976. A devoted prayer warrior, a prayer garden adjacent to Dallas Baptist University's Collins Learning Center bears her name. She was preceded in death by her husband and a son, Otis Carlyle Strickland. She is survived by son, Charles; sisters, Beatrice Kimbrough Dorothy Cadwallader and Carolyn Weathersbee; brother, Paul Bell; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
___ Wanda Fake, Jan. 27 in Corpus Christi. She was the retired music director of First Church in Rockport, serving there from 1970 to 1996. She was the wife of Charles Fake, who was pastor of the Rockport church more than 31 years prior to his retirement in 1996. He currently is interim pastor of First Church in Refugio. She is survived by her husband, four children and nine grandchildren.
