___bluebull Reccord to host Baptist Hour. Bob Reccord, president of the Southern Baptist Convention's North American Mission Board, will replace Frank Pollard as preacher for "The Baptist Hour" radio broadcast. Pollard is retiring as pastor of First Baptist Church of Jackson, Miss. "The Baptist Hour," broadcast by the SBC since 1941, is produced by NAMB's broadcast communications unit based in Fort Worth.
___bluebull East Dallas LifeWay store moves. LifeWay Christian Stores will relocate its East Dallas store from 8021 East R.L. Thornton Freeway to a new 10,800-square-foot site in Mesquite March 19. A grand-opening celebration will begin March 23. The new site is located at 18775 LBJ Freeway in Marketplace at Towne Centre.
___bluebull LifeWay hosts KidsJam party. LifeWay Christian Stores in Texas will host superhero-themed KidsJam parties for children March 16 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. A free "Heroes of the Bible" coloring book will be given to the first 100 children at each store. Other giveaways, prizes and games will be_featured throughout the event, including a scavenger hunt. LifeWay stores are located in Arlington, Austin, Conroe, Dallas, El Paso, Fort Worth, Houston, Katy, Lewisville, Longview, Lubbock, North Richland Hills, Plano, San Antonio, Tyler and Temple.
___bluebull FamilyNet begins new children's series. FamilyNet Television, a division of the Southern Baptist Convention's North American Mission Board, will premiere a new children's series this month starring Richard Thomas. "Bloodhounds Inc." revolves around a pair of teen detectives and their bloodhound, Slobs. The series will air at 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays and 8:30 a.m. Saturdays on FamilyNet.
___bluebull Wilkinson leaves CBF. The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship's top communications officer has stepped down to "pursue other ministry opportunities," officials said March 4. David Wilkinson, coordinator for communications and marketing, has worked at the CBF's Atlanta headquarters since 1993. Wilkinson was the fourth professional staff member hired by the Fellowship's Atlanta office. He previously had been vice president for seminary relations at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, director of communications for the SBC Christian Life Commission and a staff member with the Baptist Sunday School Board.
___bluebull Annuity Board increases retiree aid. Trustees of the Southern Baptist Convention's Annuity Board, meeting Feb. 25-26 in Dallas, voted to combine into a single ministry the Supplemental Assistance and Adopt An Annuitant programs. Under the new plan, officials said, more retirees will qualify for benefits and many Adopt An Annuitant recipients will qualify for more than twice the benefit they have been receiving. Both programs have provided aid to retired ministers who were underfunded in their retirement accounts. Last year, the Annuity Board distributed $5.2 million through its relief program for needy retired ministers and their widowed spouses.
___bluebull NAMB chairman resigns. Ken Alford, chairman of trustees for the Southern Baptist Convention's North American Mission Board, has resigned that post and his pastorate at Bell Shoals Baptist Church in Brandon, Fla., after acknowledging a "one-time moral indiscretion" and the need to restore his marriage. Alford also was a member of the Florida Baptist Convention's state board of missions and served in 1999-2000 as president of the Florida convention. NAMB President Bob Reccord, a former pastor of the Bell Shoals congregation, said he is "brokenhearted for Ken, his family and the Bell Shoals family." However, he applauded Alford for "openly and honestly confessing and accepting responsibility for this sin." NAMB's first vice chairman, Terry Fox, pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church in Wichita, Kan., will assume the responsibilities of trustee chairman for the remainder of Alford's term, which ends in May.
