BGCT's Campbell temporarily shifts duties to McBride
___HOUSTON--Bob Campbell has temporarily transferred his responsibilities as president of the Baptist General Convention of Texas to Paul McBride, the first vice president.
___Campbell, pastor of Westbury Baptist Church in Houston, notified BGCT leadership of the situation in a March 13 e-mail. He expects to resume his duties no later than April 25. His absence is due to an illness, which requires surgery and recuperation.
___McBride is pastor of Friendship Baptist Church in The Colony, a suburb of Dallas.
___In the e-mail, Campbell expressed his "full confidence" in McBride.
___"You are an important part of our team," Campbell wrote to McBride. "Feel free to speak without my approval. ... I am asking the press and the leadership of the BGCT offices in Dallas to seek your input on matters that would normally fall to me.
___"I know that your love for God, your own church, and the BGCT will be fully representative of all 5,800 churches in the highest of ethical and spiritual standards," Campbell wrote. "You are a dear friend and fellow. I love you and will be praying for you as you assume this responsibility."
