___ WMU honors five Texas Acteens. Five Texans have been chosen by Woman's Missionary Union to serve on the 2002 National Acteens Panel and as 2002 Top Teens. Texans will make up half the six-member 2002 National Acteens Panel--Nicole Beatty of First Baptist Church in Humble, Stephanie Irwin of Tallowood Baptist Church in Houston and Meagan Smith of First Baptist Church of Woodway. Two other Texans were named National Acteens Top Teens--Tabitha Breault and Sara Henderson, both of Heights Baptist Church in Temple. The panelists will be featured in the May/June 2002 issue of Accent, with the Top Teens appearing in the July/August issue. Panelists and Top Teens will provide leadership in state and associational WMU-related meetings. Panelists also will serve as pages at the WMU and Southern Baptist Convention annual meetings.

Three productions-- "The Cross or the Crescent," a video examination of U.S. Islam and how it compares to Christianity, the "Country Crossroads" television show and "The Ones Left Standing," a musical tribute to Sept. 11 rescue workers--won the highest-level Silver Telly.

___ Mainstreamers back missionary fund. The Mainstream Baptist Network has endorsed a fund set up by the Baptist General Convention of Texas to aid Southern Baptist missionaries who object to a new requirement that they affirm the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message. The network's national board of directors affirmed the BGCT for standing against what they call "creedalism." Additionally, state affiliates in Alabama, Arkansas, Oklahoma and South Carolina have begun plans to help finance a transitional fund for SBC International Mission Board missionaries who lose their ministries because they refuse to affirm the document. Mainstream Alabama Baptists have launched plans for a response. Arkansas Baptists Committed has established a "save the missionaries" fund. Mainstream Oklahoma Baptists have pledged $250,000 for the Texas fund, with the understanding that the priority for Oklahoma funds will be missionaries from Oklahoma. Mainstream South Carolina Baptists have endorsed and plan to "promote, encourage and forward funds" to the BGCT fund.
___ Baptists Today adds Tucker. Keithen Tucker, director of church relations for Wingate University in Wingate, N.C., has been named director of development and marketing for Baptists Today, a nationally circulated independent news journal. Georgia native Tucker, 50, served as a pastor in North Carolina for 22 years before joining the staff of the Baptist university in 1998.
