| 'Cease and desist' from harming states, SBC leaders admonished ___By Mark Wingfield ___Managing Editor ___DALLAS--Southern Baptist Convention leaders have been urged to "cease and desist from seeking to undermine the mission endeavors of state conventions in general and the Baptist General Convention of Texas in particular." ___That was the message conveyed in a resolution of the BGCT Executive Board Feb. 26. ___The resolution, adopted by the 220-member board with three dissenting votes, was presented by Wesley Shotwell, pastor of Ash Creek Baptist Church in Azle. ___It expressed "dismay and offense" over a letter written by Morris Chapman, president of the SBC Executive Committee to pastors and lay leaders of Texas Baptist churches. That letter, the resolution states, attempted to "persuade Baptist churches in Texas to redirect Cooperative Program giving away from the BGCT budget." Full Story |

| Texas Baptists celebrate dedication of Baylor's Truett Seminary ___By Mark Wingfield ___Managing Editor ___WACO--Framed by the urgency that "the night cometh," friends of Truett Theological Seminary dedicated the seminary's new home in a blaze of sunlight Feb. 22. ___Nearly 1,000 people participated in the celebration on the Baylor University campus, where the seminary recently occupied its new $17 million building. ___For its first seven-and-a-half years, Baylor's seminary held classes at First Baptist Church of Waco.
