Around the state
___ The 17th annual May by the Bay adult retreat will be held May 13-16 at Texas Baptist Encampment in Palacios. More than 200 people are expected to attend. James Semple, retired director of the Texas State Missions Commission, will return as camp pastor. Other leaders include retired pastor J.V. Helms as Bible study leader; Allen Gentiles, minister of music at First Church in Old Ocean, as music director; and Grayson Glass, pastor of First Church in Texas City, morning devotional leader. Special missionary guests are Norman and Jeanie Woods, who served for more than 40 years in Mauritius and West Africa. ___ Baptist Childre
OAK HILLS CHURCH in Floresville dedicated its sanctuary extension Feb. 3. The church doubled its capacity from 150 to 300 people. Vocalist Cynthia Clawson was the church's concert guest for the occasion. Joel Odom is pastor.
n's Home of San Antonio is collecting Campbell's, Swanson's and Franco-American food labels to benefit the agency. Individuals and churches collecting the labels may send them to the home at 7404 Highway 90 West, San Antonio 78227.
___ The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor board of trustees recently approved several faculty members for tenure. Faculty approved for tenure are Peter Chen, associate professor of math; Betty Clark, assistant professor of psychology; and Mary Dowell, Lettie Lee and Lucia Tipton, all professors of nursing.

___Anniversaries
___ First Church in Dilley, 110th, March 3. A catered lunch followed the morning service. Several former pastors spoke, and photographs from the church's history were displayed. Lance Hartsfield is pastor.
___ Red Springs Church in Seymour, 95th, March 16-17. A fellowship will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday. Bob Tremaine, director of missions for Parker-Palo Pinto Association, will speak during the Sunday School hour the next morning. Former pastor Keith Parks will speak during the worship service. A catered lunch will follow at the Red Springs Community Center. Reservations for the luncheon may be made by calling (940) 889-2092. Jack Bennett is pastor.

___Deaths
___ Cecelia Collier, 93, Dec. 31 in Longview. For more than 30 years, she dedicated her life to Christian education for children. She served on the staff of Broadway Church in Fort Worth, Queensborough Church in Shreveport and Hoffmantown Church in Albuquerque. She had been a member of First Church in Longview since 1986. She is survived by her son, James; daughters, Carolyn Meador, Jeannene Harper and Martha Hunt; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
___ Ed Eakin, 74, Feb. 20 in Austin. Eakin was owner of Eakin Press, the largest non-academic press in Texas. A veteran journalist and owner of newspapers, he was a member of First Church in Austin. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Charlene; son, Benjamin; daughter, Judith Sluiter; step-daughter, Virginia Messer; step-son, Billy Scott; sister, Margie Chesser; and six grandchildren.
