affiliate as it partners with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. Battles, a member of First Baptist Church of Arlington, is a former president of the Baylor Alumni Association. She currently serves on the Baptist General Convention of Texas Executive Board. She served two terms on CBF's national Coordinating Council. ___ Interim duties assigned. Until the position of treasurer and chief financial officer for the Baptist General Convention of Texas is filled, the job responsibilities will be divided between the convention's controller and the associate executive director, BGCT Executive Director Charles Wade has announced. Roger Hall retired from the BGCT Executive Board staff March 31. In the interim, Controller Randy Reid will assume responsibility for financial management, budget development, and building and support services. Associate Executive Director Bill Tinsley will supervise the work of the Texas Baptist Missions Foundation, Texas Baptist Historical Collection and Center, Cooperative Program services and information systems.
___ Day in the Country announced. Miracle Farm's annual open house, "A Day in the Country," is scheduled for April 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Miracle Farm, a ministry of Texas Baptist Children's Home & Family Services, is located 10 miles northeast of Brenham near Independence. The ranch provides residential care for teenage boys in need of new direction in life. Tickets for a barbeque lunch are $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 5-12. ___ Miss ETBU crowned. Julie Skeen, sophomore from Pearland, was crowned 2002 Miss ETBU at East Texas Baptist University's annual pageant March 23. First runner-up was Shanna Nelson, a sophomore from Houston. Second runner-up was Regina Lynn Gist, a senior from Longville, La. Gina Wysper Segrest, a sophomore from Sherman, was named Most Talented, and Julie Trosclair, a junior from New Orleans, was named Miss Congeniality.
___ ETBU goes online with newsletter. East Texas Baptist University has broken new ground with the release of a daily faculty/staff campus newsletter via e-mail. All ETBU faculty and staff will receive daily news and announcements. The daily electronic newsletter is believe to be the first of its kind among universities associated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas.
___ Husky Revue now due. Houston Baptist University's annual talent show, Husky Revue, will have a patriotic flair this year, partnering with the USO. HBU's USO Show will showcase the talent and diversity of HBU students. Second, all proceeds will be donated to the USO. The public event will be held April 6 in Sharp Gymnasium, beginning at 7 p.m. Tickets are $3 and may be purchased at the door or by calling (281) 649-3114.
___ Scholarship to benefit Logsdon students. Graduate students in Hardin-Simmons University's Logsdon School of Theology will benefit from a newly established scholarship honoring Max and Nora Davis, parents of Dean Vernon Davis.
___ Disaster relief serves. Disaster relief volunteers from Bluebonnet Baptist Association and the Top O' Texas Baptist Area cooked 15,225 meals in five days for people displaced by tornadoes and 100-mph winds that swept through South Central Texas. Texas Baptist Men volunteers set up emergency food service at First Baptist Church in Hondo and at a community center in Lytle less than 48 hours after five tornadoes touched down on Tuesday evening, March 19. Volunteers prepared about 14,000 meals that were delivered throughout the area by American Red Cross emergency response vehicles, in addition providing for those who came through serving lines at each field kitchen, said Jered Sellers of First Baptist Church in Plains, on-site coordinator for the disaster relief project.
___ Burg estate aids DBU. Dallas Baptist University recently received $981,000 from the estate of Viola Burg. She and her husband, Kenneth, were longtime supporters of the university. He died in 1991, and she died in 2001. The gift is designated for a Christian education scholarship fund.
___ Vestal on Texas tour. Cooperative Baptist Fellowship Coordinator Daniel Vestal will speak across Texas next week in a series of meetings open to the public. He will talk about his vision for CBF's future.
