___ George Knight, Cook-Derrick professor of New Testament and Greek for Logsdon School of Theology at Hardin-Simmons University, will retire at the conclusion of the spring semester in May. Knight joined the HSU faculty in 1976. He will be honored along with other retirees at the annual faculty and staff appreciation dinner April 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the Abilene Civic Center. He and his wife, Joan, are members of First Church in Abilene, where he is a deacon and Sunday School teacher.

___ Travis Gibson, 89, Feb. 10 in Waco. Gibson was pastor of churches in Goodnight, Fort Worth, New London and Brownwood. He subsequently was administrator of Heart of Texas Encampment until his retirement in 1978. In 1980, he became minister of visitation at Highland Church in Waco and continued until 2000. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Juanita; sons Joe and David; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
___ Ethel Hicks, 97, April 9 in Abilene. She was the widow of pastor Alvis Hicks, dormitory director at Wayland University from 1954 to 1960 and a residence hall director at Hardin-Simmons University from 1960 until 1970. She is survived by her son, Claude; daughters, Marie Stockard, Alice Scarborough and Louise Street; and six grandchildren.
