___bluebull Wedgwood dedicates memorial. During an emotional service March 30, members of Wedgwood Baptist Church and the Fort Worth community dedicated a memorial (above) to seven victims of the nation's worst church shooting. Larry Gene Ashbrook killed seven people at the church Sept. 15, 1999. Erected outside the south foyer of the sanctuary, the memorial plaza consists of an eight-sided granite monument. Seven sides are dedicated to the victims. The eighth side describes the events of the evening of Sept. 15. Black-granite prayer benches surround the 17,000-pound monument that includes a flagpole.
___bluebull SBC gifts up slightly. At mid-year, gifts to the Southern Baptist Convention's Cooperative Program are up 2.82 percent compared to the same point last year. Through the end of March, the SBC Cooperative Program received $91.74 million, compared to $89.23 million the previous year. The SBC operates on an October through September fiscal year. Designated gifts to the SBC are up 0.80 percent at mid-year, totaling $105 million.
