___ Durward Howard and Theiss Jones have been selected by the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Walter Gilewicz Hall of Fame Committee as distinguished musicians. Jones has been minister of music at First Church in Temple for 30 years and has served numerous churches in Texas and Florida during almost 45 years of ministry. Howard is the deceased former band director and fine arts administrator at Temple High School. His wife, Jean, will represent him at the ceremony. Both men will be inducted into the school's hall of fame at the organization' annual concert April 13 at 2 p.m. The sanctuary choir of First Church in Temple will perform prior to the ceremony. The event is free and open to the public.

NORTH COLEMAN CHURCH in Coleman held a groundbreaking ceremony March 17 in preparation for the construction of an 1,800-square-foot multipurpose building. The church facilities department of the Baptist General Convention of Texas has helped the church in the beginning stages of the project. At least some of the construction will be done by volunteer labor. Billy Roberts is pastor.

___Deaths
___ Haston Brewer, 83, March 11 in Cleburne. He served Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene from 1980 to 1990 as evening chaplain. He also was pastor of Crestview Church in Midland, First Church in Eastland and Drasco Church in Winters, as well as four Oklahoma churches. Brewer served during World War II as an Army engineer in India, Burma and China. He had been a member of the board of trustees at Howard Payne University and of the Executive Board of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. He was a member of Field Street Church in Cleburne. He is survived by his wife, Mildred; daughters, Sue Hudgins, Martha Bunting, Jan Beskow and Sarah Krause; sisters, Geneva Bottom and Joan Harris; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
