VARSITY BIBLES come in school colors.

Team spirit meets the spiritual in new Varsity Bibles
___NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)--Sacred religion has now met varsity religion in bonded leather.
___Broadman & Holman, the trade publishing division of LifeWay Christian Resources, is producing a bonded leather, ultra-thin version of the Bible boasting one of five common school varsity colors. The school-colors Bibles are available in the New International Version or King James Version.
___"We have Varsity Blue, Varsity Crimson, Varsity Orange, Varsity Purple and Varsity Red," said Ricky King, product development manager of Bibles, reference and devotional books for Broadman & Holman. If these Bibles go over well, he said, gold and green would be the next colors added to the mix.
___It was King's idea to use school colors to cover the Bibles.
___"I was in a meeting one day, and someone said they had a customer coming in asking for a (University of Tennessee) orange Bible, which we didn't produce at the time," he recalled.
___That request started him thinking: "People buy Bible covers all the time to give their Bibles a different look. Why don't we just start binding our Bibles in colors that will have wide appeal?"
___Most importantly, King believes, the colorful Bibles may be used as an evangelistic tool.
___"Say you play sports on a team and you are a Christian. You've wanted to share the word with somebody, but haven't figured out a way to do it. This would be a cool way."
___Giving a non-Christian a Bible in a varsity color would be much different that providing a black one, King said. "This Bible is cool enough and different enough that they might pick it up and read it."
___The varsity-colors Bibles sell for $20.
