BGCT missions committee will listen to ideas
___Members of a committee exploring "new initiatives" in missions will host a series of meetings around the state in coming weeks to listen to Texas Baptists' ideas.
___The networking initiatives subcommittee of the Baptist General Convention of Texas Missions Review & Initiatives Committee has planned 15 regional listening sessions.
___The BGCT created the Missions Review & Initiatives Committee not only to review ongoing concerns raised by a previous study committee on missions-sending agencies, but also to explore new initiatives, according to Keith Parks, chairman of the subcommittee.
___"We are beginning this process by listening to you and your congregations," Parks said in a letter sent to the pastors of all BGCT-related churches. "We are also hearing from respected missiologists, current missionaries, Texas Baptist institutions regarding their remarkable worldwide ministries and Baptist leaders across the world."
___The letter, also signed by BGCT Executive Director Charles Wade, encouraged pastors to bring members of their congregations to participate in the ongoing discussion: "We desire to learn more about what your church is doing and wants to do in missions."
___Each regional meeting will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The meetings are May 22 at First Baptist churches of Abilene and Waco; May 23 at First Baptist churches of Austin and Midland; May 25 at Gaston Oaks Baptist Church in Dallas; May 30 at First Baptist churches of Arlington and El Paso; June 1 at Baptist Temple in San Antonio; June 3 at Tallowood Baptist Church in Houston and First Baptist churches in Tyler, Amarillo and Victoria; and June 4 at First Baptist Church in Harlingen and Wayland Baptist University in Plainview. One evening meeting also is planned, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. May 23 at First Baptist Church of Orange.
