BAYLOR UNIVERSITY students carry bags of stuffed teddy bears to the office of Buckner Children & Family Services. Baylor students, faculty and staff donated nearly 500 bears for the Bear the Burden campaign sponsored by Buckner and the Baptist Standard. The bears will be used by service workers such as firefighters, rescue personnel and police officers to bring comfort to children in times of trauma. The program specificially targets aid for children who are abused and neglected. To learn more about how to participate in the campaign, visit www.beartheburden.org.

Christianity outstripping Islam worldwide

___WASHINGTON (RNS)--One of the often-heard comments since Sept. 11 is that Islam is growing so rapidly it soon will become the world's largest religion, overtaking Christianity in just a couple of decades.
___Many of these projections are traceable to the work of Harvard University scholar Samuel Huntington, who has put forward the idea of a "clash of civilizations." But a new book about Christianity in the Third World says Huntington and others are missing the global demographic picture.

Davis led once-ailing Wayland to era of security and growth

___PLAINVIEW--Wallace Davis, downplays his role in rebuilding Wayland University, once plagued by monetary woes and image problems. He sees himself more as a catalyst for the often-painful refining process Wayland inevitably faced, something he calls "a collective effort of a lot of people--administrators, faculty, students and staff."
___"If I did anything, I helped them believe in themselves again," he said. "And by being able to tell the Wayland story, (the community) was able to believe again in the university."
