ETBU building new student housing
___MARSHALL--East Texas Baptist University plans to open a new 200-bed student dormitory by Aug. 1, according to Sam Fogle, vice president for administration and finance.
___The university began construction of the dorm last fall to respond to growing enrollment. The last dorm project at ETBU, construction of the Ornelas Residential Center, was completed in 1996.
Apartment-style dormitories are under construction at East Texas Baptist University, where enrollment growth has stretched student housing beyond capacity. The new housing will be ready for the start of the fall term.
___The new facility is an apartment-style complex for "traditional" students at ETBU, Fogle said. Seven buildings are organized in a figure-eight shape with two courtyards. Six of the buildings have four apartments on the ground level and four on the second level. Another building features a commons area on the ground level and the dorm director's apartment and two student apartments on the second level.
___Each student apartment offers a living room, full kitchen and bathroom accommodations for four students, and a private bedroom for each occupant.
___Meanwhile, the university's Scarborough Chapel is being renovated to serve as additional classroom and educational space. The chapel was built in 1948.
