___ HBTS graduates 20. Hispanic Baptist Theological School in San Antonio awarded 20 diplomas to graduates during spring commencement May 17 at Primera Iglesia Bautista Mexicana. Bob Campbell, pastor of Westbury Baptist Church in Houston and current president of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, brought the commencement address.
___ Youth winners named. Winners in the annual Bible drill, youth speakers' contest and essay contest sponsored by the Baptist General Convention of Texas are Asher Strassner of Champion Forest Baptist Church in Houston, first place in Bible drill; Candace Breiten of Northside Baptist Church of Del Rio, second place in Bible drill; Jessica Vanarsdall of First Baptist Church of Olney, first place speaker; Melissa Emerson of Champion Forest Baptist Church, second place speaker; Brenton Dowdy of First Baptist Church of Clyde, first-place essay writer; and Jamie Anne McKinney of First Baptist Church of Paris, second-place essay writer. Not shown is John Travis Smith of Fellowship Baptist Church in Brenham, who took third place in the essay contest.
___ Family conference offered. South Texas Children's Home will offer its second annual Blanche Davis Moore Family Conference July 19-20 in Corpus Christi with support from 200 area churches of multiple denominations. ___ ETBU hosts senior adults. About 2,500 senior adults are expected to visit East Texas Baptist University June 3-6 for the 13th annual Senior Adult Conference. This year's theme is "Life is So Good." General sessions will be led by Carl Duck, retired director of missions from Nashville, Tenn., and former pastor of Lakeside Baptist Church in Dallas. Conference music will be led by Bill and Catherine Cox of Nashville. In addition to several guest choirs, participants will hear Gerald Wolfe and Greater Vision, three-time winner of the Gospel Music Association's Trio of the Year award. ___ Music scholarship established. East Texas Baptist University has established a music scholarship in memory of Sharon Faulkner, former music professor and department chairman who died earlier this year. The scholarship, established by Faulkner's widow, Joyce, will provide annual assistance for a student majoring in music.
___ UMHB goes Neon. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor's campus will be featured in a national series of catalogue ads for the Dodge Neon. Dodge's advertising agency chose the Belton campus as a site that would appeal to 18-year-olds to 24-year-olds. The photo shoot occurred at Sanderford Administration Complex on Vann Circle Drive.
___ Baylor regents elect chairman. Drayton McLane Jr., chairman of the Houston Astros and Temple-based McLane Group, was elected chairman of Baylor University's board of regents May 17. He succeeds John Wilkerson of Lubbock. Three other regents were elected vice chairs: Minette Drumwright of Fort Worth, Sam Medina of Lubbock and David Sibley of Waco. The board also elected two new regents: Stan Allcorn, pastor of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in Abilene, and Steve Carmack, chairman and chief executive officer of Legacy Bank in Hinton, Okla.
