Celebrity endorsements aid charities

___NASHVILLE, Tenn. (RNS)--Taking a leaf from the notebook of secular celebrities from singer Barbra Streisand and actor Martin Sheen to rock star Bono, prominent Christian celebrities are learning to plug into and publicize their own favorite ministries and charities.
___And when they cast the light of their fame on a charity or cause, the cause's own beacon shines that much brighter, say experts on Christian philanthropy.

Texas Baptist songwriter's work named Dove's Song of the Year
___NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP) --A Texas Baptist took top honors this year at the Gospel Music Association's Dove Awards.
___Bart Millard, staff evangelist at Highland Terrace Baptist Church in Greenville, wrote the worship song "I Can Only Imagine" that was named Song of the Year at the April 25 awards ceremony in Nashville.
___The 29-year-old Millard, a former high school football coach, is one of five members of the contemporary Christian ensemble MercyMe.

Baptist Convention of the Americas? Not yet, but maybe, Reynolds says

___WACO--Herbert Reynolds went to the Texas capital of Austin in the fall of 1998 and spent his own money to legally reserve the name "Baptist Convention of the Americas." If and how a new convention ever formulates are undetermined, he said. If it is going to happen, however, he believes Texas Baptists must take the lead.
