___bluebull African-American Fellowship meets. The African American Fellowship of the Southern Baptist Convention met June 10 in St. Louis. The meeting at Good News Baptist Church featured guest speaker William Jordan, pastor of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church Cathedral in Harvey, Ill. Officers are George McCalep Jr., pastor of Greenforest Community Baptist Church in Decatur, Ga., president; Robert Anderson Jr., pastor of Colonial Baptist Church in Randallstown, Md., vice president; Leon Johnson, pastor of Bread of Life Baptist Church in Chicago, treasurer; Frankie Harvey, a member of Nacogdoches Bible Fellowship in Nacogdoches, secretary; M.A. Thompson, pastor of New Bethlehem Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio, parliamentarian; and Robert Franklin, pastor of Greater Fellowship Baptist Church in St. Louis, historian. Four new regional directors were named as well: Phillip Davis, pastor of Nations Ford Community Church in Charlotte, N.C.; Jordan, of Harvey, Ill.; Manning Perkins, pastor of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Denver; and E.W. McCall Sr., pastor of St. Stephen Baptist Church of La Puente, Calif.
___bluebull Resolutions changes adopted. New procedures for the Southern Baptist Convention's resolutions committee were adopted June 11. Under the new policy, the committee will be named a month earlier than before, proposed resolutions must be accompanied by a letter from the originator's church certifying that they are a member in good standing, and proposed resolutions will be solicited in advance of the convention.
___bluebull Creed named Samford provost. Brad Creed, former dean of Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor University, has been named provost of Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. For the past year, Creed has been associate provost.
___bluebull South Carolina CBF appoints missionaries. The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of South Carolina has appointed its first missionaries, Evelyn Oliveira and Bill Stanfield. The couple will serve as urban missionaries in Charleston, S.C. Although the national CBF organization provided assistance in the selection process, the couple will be supported by the state group rather than the national group, a new model in CBF missions.
___bluebull Missouri closer to legal action. Leaders of the Missouri Baptist Convention moved closer to legal action against five agencies that recently declared self-perpetuating boards. In a special session June 6, the convention's Executive Board voted 33-9 to authorize a legal task force "to take all legal steps necessary to restore the five agencies to their former legal relationship" with the convention.
___bluebull Southwestern honors distinguished alumni. Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary honored three graduates as distinguished alumni June 12. The awards went to David Dockery, Stanley Togikawa and James Morgan. Dockery is president of Union University in Jackson, Tenn. Togikawa recently retired as director of business services and church support for the Hawaii Pacific Baptist Convention. Morgan, now deceased, was a Texas minister who served as president of the Baptist General Convention of Texas from 1952 to 1954.
