Bowie churches unite for prayer
___By George Henson
___Staff Writer
___BOWIE--A desire to see God do something new in Bowie has brought First Baptist Church and four other churches together in a prayer and fasting chain.
___The churches united in a prayer emphasis called "Seek God for the City." They not only prayed separately but met together for praise and prayer on Mondays.
___When that emphasis was over, the churches decided to take things a bit deeper. Each congregation took a week to focus on prayer and fasting.
___Pastor Ronnie Lawson of First Baptist believes the effort was positive.
___"It's created an awareness and a desire to know more about fasting," he said. "It's also caused us to realize that in just doing things the way we've always done them that maybe we've been leaving something out."
___Participation in fasting and prayer has created a greater spritual awareness and has helped participants learn to stay more focused on the things of God, he said.
___"What this all stems from is a great desire for revival--not only for our congregation, but for the whole city of Bowie. Ultimately, we want to see many of the lost brought into the family of God," Lawson said.
___Other churches participating include Assembly of God, Nazarene, Pentecostal Church of God and non-denominational churches.
___Crossing denominational lines also produced good fruit, Lawson said.
___"It's been rewarding to get to know these other pastors personally and to see that the desire of their hearts is to see God in control of their lives and our community."
