___ Harvey to lead ETBU nursing. Carolyn Harvey, a 20-year veteran of nursing, has been named dean of the School of Nursing at East Texas Baptist University. Harvey comes to ETBU from the University of Texas Health Center at Tyler, where she has served as senior practice manager since 1999.
___ VIP Day popular at ETBU. The first of three VIP Days scheduled for prospective students at East Texas Baptist University has reached capacity, but openings remain in two future events. While the July 18-19 session has reached its limit of 150 students, openings remain for Aug. 1-2 and Aug. 8-9. During the two-day events, incoming students meet other students, visit with advisers, see dorm rooms and pre-register for classes. For more information, call (903) 923-2078.
___ San Antonio hospital eyes for-profit partner. Trustees of Baptist Health System in San Antonio are pursuing a partnership with Vanguard Health Systems. The for-profit Vanguard was chosen from among three proposals. "Our hope as a board was to find a capital partner who will be as committed to our mission and the community as we are," said Earl Cutler, chairman of Baptist hospital board. "In Vanguard, we have found that partner." Under terms of a preliminary agreement, the health system would retain its identity and faith-based mission, with Vanguard bringing an infusion of capital and access to other resources.?The partnership must be approved by the Baptist General Convention of Texas before it can be finalized.
___ TLC coming soon. The Woman's Missionary Union of Texas' leadership conference, themed "God's Plan ... My Part," will take place July 18-20 at Baylor University. The Texas Leadership Conference will feature a Bible study led by Gaynor Yancey, assistant professor in the School of Social Work at Baylor. Several missionaries also will be showcased. Afternoon meetings will cover topics such as evangelism, contemplative prayer and Islam. Conferences will be held several languages, including Spanish, Thai, Korean and Vietnamese.
