___ VBS reached 3 million. Southern Baptist Convention churches enrolled 3.2 million children in Vacation Bible Schools in 2001, according to data released from LifeWay Christian Recources. That's an increase of 400,000 from the previous year, said Becky Martin, VBS ministry specialist for LifeWay. "We were thrilled to learn that 109,045 people made decisions to accept Christ as Savior because of Vacation Bible School." Also in 2001, 63 percent of SBC churches having VBS did their program during the evening.
___ CBF gives relief funds in Texas. The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship has given $5,000 to assist with flood-relief efforts in Central Texas. In addition, CBF is partnering with World Vision to provide construction and cleaning supplies. This is the first domestic disaster response in which the CBF and World Vision have worked together.
___ Southwestern adds worship degree. A 48-hour master of arts in worship degree has been approved at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. The degree will help students develop lifelong skills amid constantly changing trends, said Benjamin Harlan, dean of the church music school. The program will include an emphasis on contemporary worship, Harlan said. "We are going to have a praise team here at Southwestern that carries with it academic credit for the first time. We are offering a course in worship literature for the first time. We have had for a few years a music technology course. So there are a number of courses here that address contemporary worship."
