Six months through the year, the Missouri Baptist newspaper Word & Way made up just under 45 percent of funds held in escrow by the Missouri Baptist Convention. The paper reported gifts totaling $79,704 between January and June in its Aug. 1 issue. That compares to $178,347 earmarked for the paper for the same period in the state convention budget but held in escrow over a leadership dispute. ___bluebull SBC prof warns against childless marriages. Pastors should think twice before marrying couples intent on not having children, a Southern Baptist Theological Seminary professor said on the national radio program "FamilyLife Today." William Cutrer, professor of Christian ministry at the Southern Baptist Convention seminary, was a guest on the program July 15-19 during a week-long discussion on family planning. "The (marital) relationship is one of sacrifice and other-seeking, a relationship with God first and then a beautiful covenant intimate relationship ... where you grow to know one another in very deep sorts of ways over time. And children are often--and I think naturally, if I may use that term--the outpouring or the fruit of such a relationship. For some that means quite a number of children. For others, because of genetic or medical problems, they may not be able to have children at all." Cutrer said he would be "very reluctant" to marry any couple who purposely decided not to have children.
