Buckner Camping with Care

Camps conducted by Buckner Orphan Care International for orphans in Romania and Russia this summer gave the children a break from their often crowded and monotonous life in an institution, and gave volunteer teams an opportunity to minister Gods love through nurturing, hugs and working with crafts and games.

Buckner provided a Vacation Bible School-style program for the children, who were attending the camp. Several of the Buckner-led missions team members expressed sadness over the childrenÕs personal situations and the orphanageÕs lack of resources. Members of a team from Wedgwood and Calvary Baptist Church of Tulia worked in the orphanage for two days, in addition to providing Vacation Bible School activities at a remote camp for special needs orphans. Targu Mures, ROMANIA Ð Buckner intern Heather Smith of San Marcos, Texas, comforts a tiny infant in the quarantine hospital ward in Leaganul Orphanage.Buckner interns, who served as longer-term volunteers during the summer, provided continuity for BucknerÕs missions effortd. "When we visit the toddlers at the baby orphanage, you see a little bit of hope in their eyes," Smith said. "And you know that for that instant, that childÕs understanding is that they are loved -- and our prayer is that they understand that they are loved by the Lord first and foremost."

Lapusna, ROMANIA Ð A big part of Camp Buckner in Romania was action-oriented worship featuring songs each morning before Vacation Bible School and around a campfire each night. Lapusna, ROMANIA Ð When language was a barrier, symbols often represented ideas as Buckner volunteers taught biblical concepts during Camp Buckner in Romania.
