Dilday named interim president of Howard Payne ___BROWNWOOD--Russell Dilday has been named interim president of Howard Payne University. ___Dilday is a former president of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, former professor at Baylor University's Truett Theological Seminary and former president of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. ___He fills a vacancy created by the resignation of President Rick Gregory this summer. Since that time, Lanny Hall has been serving in the temporary capacity of acting president. Hall is a former administrator at Howard Payne who is chancellor of Hardin-Simmons University. ___Howard Payne is one of eight universities affiliated with the BGCT. ___"I'm looking forward to joining the Howard Payne team," Dilday said. "My acquaintance with and appreciation for this institution go back to Dr. Guy Newman's presidency and have grown through frequent visits on the campus since then. As a result of the quality education they received here, HPU graduates were some of the best students we had at Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth and Truett Seminary in Waco. They were convincing evidence of the excellent faculty and the positive environment of Christian faith and learning that is Howard Payne's hallmark." ___A search committee has been appointed by the university's board of trustees to find the institution's 18th president. The committee consists of trustees, a staff member, a faculty member, a representative from the alumni association, a representative of the Douglas MacArthur Academy of Freedom and a member of the student body.
