___ARLINGTON--Moving people from one place to another, both physically and spiritually, will be the focus of the Metroplex Mission Love-in-Action projects.
___For the last 25 years, every visit by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association to a city has included an outreach effort to the community. The Metroplex Mission to be held at Texas Stadium in Irving Oct. 17-20 will feature a four-pronged approach to ministry. Participants are urged to donate good-running older vehicles, bus passes, bicycles or Bibles.
___"Clothing and food are already taken care of through other means," mission associate Ron Shea told a group gathered Aug. 10 at the mission offices in Arlington. "But in working with various ministries, we've found that transportation is a key issue, especially here in Arlington, where there is no bus system."
___While the donation of vehicles may seem like an ambitious request, Shea said Mission Arlington already gives about 200 vehicles a year to screened applicants.
___Donations of bus passes also are requested. Day passes in books of 10 are recommended, because monthly passes have expiration dates. The Dallas Area Rapid Transit Authority also has a non-profit rate at which churches may purchase books of passes in bulk. Information about purchasing Dallas Area Rapid Transit passes is available by calling (214) 749-3074. Information about Fort Worth Transportation Authority passes is available by calling (817) 215-8728.
___A third means of participation is the donation of bicycles to area ministries to be given away at Christmas time.
___Finally, Bibles are needed to move people along in their spiritual journeys. Local ministries regularly run out of Bibles, especially foreign-language translations, Shea reported.
___Items donated through Love in Action will be given to Central Dallas Ministries, Mission Arlington and Cornerstone Assistance Network in Fort Worth. These ministries will coordinate with others in their area to make the best use of the donated items.
___All items may be dropped off at the mission offices at 501 Duncan Perry Road in Arlington on Aug. 31 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., or taken to Texas Stadium any evening of the crusade.
___For more information, call the mission offices at (817) 695-1880 or check the website at www.MetroplexMission.org.
